Bad Rabbit Volunteers Page ... Terlingua Ranch has a long tradition of volunteerism among property owners. Our directors serve without pay, property owners have helped in the restaurant, mailing newsletters, stuffing envelopes, making beds, checking road conditions, painting buildings -- whatever it takes to help the Association through crunches and over humps -- there have always been people to step up to the plate. April 29, 2006 -- Report to the Membership The Bad Rabbit Volunteer Group is continuing its work to renovate the old bunkhouse facility into a beautiful and useful conference/party room. The substructure for the dance floor is complete and the cedar handrail at the pool side entrance is nearly done. The hardwood flooring will not be installed until we can get an adequate floor covering to protect the surface from wear and tear, particularly from the movement of chairs across the floor. The entire floor has been leveled, an entrance from the pool side entrance has been created, and a cedar post safety rail has been built for the midsection. The floor is now ready for the finishing of the tile work. The following people actively participated in the construction of the dance floor and concrete work: Jim and Portia Dunn, Julianne Braun and Dave Farmen, Doug Backer and Ray Choate, Wayne MacLeod, William Rich, Dick Willauer, Dean Bucher, Susi Cavender, Pat Bennett, Jim Miller, Ed Marcato, Charlie Oakes, Frank Oxsheer. Thanks also go to the families of some of these folks for allowing them to take part of their vacation time to assist. Special thanks to Ed and Charlie for making this vital step happen and for making it work. Next step: tiling the remaining floor, putting on the hardwood, finishing the handrail. Then on to the ceiling fans, lighting and other electrics. We need more volunteers and, as always, additional funding. If you'd like to volunteer or make a donation (or both), please contact either the Ranch office or Jack Hennessy (afridev@hughes.net or 432-371-2118). Let's keep up the momentum!!
February 2, 2006 We'd like to get this rolling because after the flooring is in we'll tackle the electrics (lighting, fans, etc). We'll need some skilled and unskilled volunteers for this part as well. Once we have flooring and lighting the room will be quite functional for some uses and we'll raise more funds for new doors and windows and the acoustic insulation of the ceiling.
In 2004 we saw a group of property owners come together to take on an important long term project: the renovation of the old bunkhouse. The idea was born after the January meeting in a brain storming meeting about how to help the resort improve revenues. The future of the bunkhouse will be to create a large space that can be used for conferences, parties, dances and a rainy day patio. The completed space will greatly enhance our ability to attract business groups, retreats, wedding parties, reunions and the like. The group is committed to raising all the funds for the renovation so that our operating budget is not adversely affected. To that end they hosted a barbeque bash in March and two other cookouts so far this year. They have raffled off land donated specifically to support the project. The link at the bottom of this page will take you to the most current Bunkhouse Renovation Progress Report. We will also be posting information about future volunteer events and how you can help ...
